No Spin

Wanting a piece of Bill O'Reilly

I might be breaking rank here, but I believe David Letterman was a little out of his element when he was attacking Bill O'Reilly. It is not the fact that he attacked Bill, it was the fact that he really looked dumb doing it. Bill O'Reilly is a big ass, but from what the article says, people really like that about him.

It's worth noting that nearly 2.7 million people -- about
200,000 above last year's average -- tuned in to watch "The O'Reilly Factor" the
night after he went toe-to-toe with Letterman, according to Nielsen Media
Research. O'Reilly's younger viewer ship was up 20 percent over his December
numbers.

David Letterman was attempting to attack him, and the only sort of funny thing that he got out was, "I have the feeling about 60 percent of what you say is crap." It is clear that O'Reilly is a news guy, and David Letterman is a funny guy.

Was David attempting to create his own No Spin Zone? Well if you were trying to beat up on Bill Dave, it didn't work that time. I do have to give it to O'Reilly because he has no problem going on these programs talking about his show and arguing with people. Yes that is his job, and that makes him money, but I would like to see if David Letterman has the balls to go on the Factor some day. Something tells me he won't.

Of course, it's a lot easier to go on these shows and feel like you can defend yourself when you can lie all you want and not feel bad about it. The normal synapses that would fire in your brain or mine when we told a lie--the ones that make you feel ashamed, and make it evident to people watching you that you know you're being deceitful--appear to be disconnected in his brain. We should be proud of Dave for maintaining those cerebral connections, and proud of him for calling Bill out on the carpet even when doing so appears to be a lost cause.

Brian, I agree with you on when you say it would have been worthless if that had not happend. If you watched the tape however, Dave looked more upset or pissed than trying to make good TV. It started out ok, then Dave went alittle out of character. I do not think O'Reilly was attempting to pick a fight during the interview. Dave was asking for it.
